4 out of 5 stars Great connectivity   March 7, 2010

I just bought the Samsung BD-P3600 and it works great. However the reason for 4 stars, I had to return the first one to Amazon. It made a strange noise when the power was on. No big deal, Amazon makes it easy to return. Second one works great.
I have the wireless set up and get Pandora and Netflix. It is easy to set up, as the system is pre-set up for these. Just tell the unit how to connect (wired or wireless), set up an account via your computer, and it's all set.
I thought the wireless may give interruptions to the movies, but that has not been the case. The streaming movies works great, no problems.
I recommend this unit.

3 out of 5 stars It's a good product but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.   March 7, 2010

I bought the 3600 even after reading all the problems that people have been having with the unit. It sounded like luck if you got a good unit or if you got a lemon. I wanted to buy the OPPO BDP-83 but at $500 that's pretty expensive so I wanted to give the 3600 a chance. My thinking was that if the 3600 gave me too many problems I would return it and bite the bullet and get the OPPO.
On the first blu-ray movie I watched, the unit froze twice. Each time I had to power down the unit and start the movie all over again. Since then I've watched about 20 movies - both regular and blu-ray - and the unit has not frozen any more. The 3600 did refuse to turn on once last week. I had to disconnect it and reconnect it in order to get it to work. I did download the software upgrade on the unit - it automaticaly informed me that there was an update.
So other than those two issues, the unit has been running great. Blu-ray is truly better than standard dvd. The clariy is stunning - especially on the Batman The Dark Knight movie. The scenes took my breath away. I've watch a lot of regular dvd's as well and the 3600 upconverts these perfectly. I like the fact that a lot of the regular dvd's fill my 54" hdtv screen completely instead of having letter boxes on the top. Even then the standard dvd movies look very clear.
I will continue to use the 3600 and report back if any addition problems occur but for now I will continue to keep my fingers crossed.

4 out of 5 stars Overall, very good blu-ray player   March 6, 2010

I like the added feature of being able to stream netflix, you tube, pandora, and blockbuster. Typing using the remote takes a little more time, but it'll do. Would have liked to have the option being able to hook up a wireless keyboard like that of the PS3 as well as have a bluetooth remote, again like that of the PS3. The only reason I didn't buy the PS3 is because I really don't have time to play video games; otherwise, I would've gone with the PS3; although, I don't know if PS3 has Pandora or not. I know it can stream Netflix.

5 out of 5 stars A Winner for me and my family   March 5, 2010

After months of researching blu-ray players. I finally settled on the Samsung BD-P3600. After reading some of the reviews I was a little leary and unsure of my purchase after bringing it home. I am glad it worked out and I feel comfortable recommending this player to my friends and family.
Out of the box the installation was easy. No issues connecting to my wireless network. Since I already had account with Netflix, youtub, and Pandora, connection to theses services was also easy. I played several movies and shows from my instant list in netflix without any noticeable delay. My Pandora music channels where available and played perfectly. Based on other comments, I expected some trouble with PC Streaming and will update my comments after I have some more time to play with it. But I was able to get it working using the manual feature to connect to my main PC. Note that prior to starting I created a new user on the Main home PC that has access to one shared folder off of the root directory (simple user name, password, and share name with read only access to share). I copied a number files that I wanted to access from the TV to the shared folder (mostly photos, music, I will look for videos). I connected to my share and reviewed files without incident. I will need to play with this a little more before feeling comfortable with this feature. The only thing I can really say is that I was able to connect and access my files. The Youtube feature also worked - But I prefer using my PC to watch Youtube content, me eight year old watched several roller coaster tycoon videos from Youtube without incident.
As my first Blu-ray Disc and DVD player, the BD-P3600 performs very well, does what I needed it to do, and was easy to setup. DVDs played with excellent quality. Blu-Ray? I have nothing to compare it too since I have not watch blu-ray disk on any other player. I love the quality, but whose to say I wouldn't have loved the movies on any other player. I had no issues with Pandora and Netflix streaming features. YouTube Streaming feature I can take it or leave it. PC Streaming is a question mark that I will need to look into a little more. Overall a winner!

4 out of 5 stars Latest in BluRay Technology   March 5, 2010

I purchased this model because I friend had recently bought it and was wild about it. It was his first BluRay player while I already had one that was a year old. I was happy with my Panasonic DMP-BD35 which had been highly rated by [...], but it didn't have wireless internet streaming. That was a great selling point to me. I am a Netflix subscriber and the Samsung BD-P3600 now allows me to stream movies over my household wireless network. I can also listen to a wide variety of music using my surround sound system on the P3600 using Pandora. The unit was easy to install and get working using the manual and the online menuing. I had a momentary problem as I was trying to input my WEP code when Samsung refers to it as a WPA2 code. But, now it's working and working fine. The picture is great (at 1080p) even though our HDTV is only a 1080i unit. We'll be upgrading in the next year to 1080p and look forward to the even better picture. The remote is easy to use and fits nicely in your hand. I'm sold on this unit and would recommend it to anyone. And, Amazon.com has the undisputed best price on this unit.

We haven't used the BD-live functions on this unit but they are easily accessed due to the included wireless dongle.
